Free Strikethrough Tool, Works Everywhere, No Sign-Up

Strikethrough Text Generator

Cross out any text and paste it anywhere. Great for price drops, corrections with personality, and the classic "what I meant to say" joke format.

Quick answer: This tool adds a Unicode combining long-stroke character after each letter, which renders as a line through your text (l̶i̶k̶e̶ t̶h̶i̶s̶). Because it is plain text, it works on LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Instagram, Discord and WhatsApp, no formatting support needed.

How to Use the Strikethrough Text Generator

Strikethrough is the only "edit visible" style, it shows what changed. Only Discord and a few chat apps support it natively, everywhere else you need the Unicode version this tool produces.

1

Type your text

Enter or paste the words you want to convert into the box above.

2

Watch it convert

Your text instantly appears in crossed-out Unicode text. No button to press, no sign-up.

3

Copy the result

Click Copy next to the version you like best.

Paste it anywhere

Paste into LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Discord, anywhere that accepts text.

What Strikethrough Is Good For

Marketers use strikethrough for prices (was 9̶9̶ now $49), writers use it for the joke where the "deleted" thought stays visible, and project updates use it for done items in a list. It communicates change without extra words, which is exactly what scanning readers reward.

Technically, the generator inserts U+0336, a combining character, after every letter. Some fonts draw the line slightly higher or lower, so the effect can vary a little between devices, but it stays readable everywhere. Keep struck phrases short: a few words read as wit, a paragraph reads as noise.

Want all 19 fonts side by side instead? Try the LinkedIn Font Generator, or use the LinkedIn Text Formatter for a full editor with a live post preview.

Skip the Copy-Paste on Social Media

The free Post Formatter Chrome extension puts strikethrough and 30+ other styles right inside the LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Threads and Bluesky composers, select text, click a button, done. Plus drafts, a live post preview, and a character counter.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I strike through text on LinkedIn or X?
Neither platform supports strikethrough natively. Type your text above, copy the crossed-out result, and paste it into your post or comment. It renders for all readers on desktop and mobile.
Why does the line look broken on some devices?
The strike is a combining Unicode character drawn by the font itself. Most modern fonts connect it smoothly, a few draw small gaps between letters. The text stays readable either way, and there is no way around it that still works as plain text.
How does the strikethrough text generator generator work?
It does not use fonts or images. Every ordinary letter is swapped for a Unicode character that already looks strikethrough text. Because the output is real text, it survives copy-paste into any app and renders the same for everyone.
Are there downsides to styled Unicode text?
Use it for accents, not whole posts. Styled characters are not indexed by platform search, and some screen readers spell them out awkwardly. A bold phrase or a styled headline works great, full styled paragraphs hurt readability.
Is this tool free?
Yes, completely free, no sign-up and no limits. The Post Formatter Chrome extension, which applies the same styles directly inside LinkedIn, X and Facebook, is also free.
